چکیده

Opening the Black Box of Intra-Household Decision-Making: Theory and Non-Parametric Empirical Tests of General Collective Consumption Models We non-parametrically test a general collective consumption model with public consumption and externalities inside the household. We further propose a novel approach to model special cases of the general collective model. These special cases include alternative restrictions on the 'sharing rule' that applies to each household, and which defines the distribution of the household budget over the household members. A limiting case is the unitary model. Our application uses data from the Russia Longitudinal Monitoring Survey (RLMS); the panel structure of this data set allows non-parametric testing of the behavioral models without relying on preference homogeneity assumptions across similar individuals. This application includes test results but also a power analysis for different specifications of the collective consumption model. Our main findings are that the most general collective model, together with a large class of special but still fairly general cases, cannot be rejected by the data, while other, restricted, versions of the general model, including the unitary alternative, are rejected. Since these tests are entirely nonparametric, this provides strong evidence in favor of models focusing on intra-household decision-making. JEL Classification: D11, D12, C14

A new non oriented models for calculating the efficiency of decision-making units in the presence of flexible variables

In assessing the relative efficiency of decision-maker units by classical Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models, the status of the data is determined from the input or output points of views. In real issues, there are some data whose statuses are debatable. Some decision making units consider them as input to achieve higher efficiency while some other decision making units consider them ...

Environmental Kuznets Curve ( EKC) theory has evolved over several decades from its initial intuitive conception to the complex theoretical models of today. Through successive steps of empirical and theoretical debate, a quadratic relationship between income and environmental degradation has been proposed, criticized, defended, and criticized again.   Along the way, each finding have new look...

Computational Inefficiency Of Nonparametric Tests For Consistency Of Data With Household Consumption

Recently Cherchye et al. (2007a) provided a nonparametric characterization of a general collective model for household consumption which includes externalities and public consumption. This characterization involved different necessary and sufficient conditions. We identify a special case of the household model for which their sufficiency conditions are also necessary. We show that verification ...

An Efficient Nonparametric Test of the Collective Household Model

The collective household model has emerged as one of the dominant models for studying household consumption behavior. This paper considers a special case of the collective model known as the situation dependent dictatorship model. This model is particularly suited to household scanner data where the bundle of goods purchased by the household is observed but the household member who made the pur...

مدلسازی خطی برای تعیین مجموعه وزنهای مشترک در ساختار شبکه ای

In traditional DEA models, one faces the challenge of zero and unequal weights for evaluating each decision-making unit (DMU). On the other hand, for measuring the efficiency in these models, the system is considered as a black box, disregarding its internal processes. One of the strategies applied to deal with this problem is to use common weights of each input/output in all DMUs. In practice,...
